These pretty much show her personality, and our relationship, for what it was. Amazons are pair bond birds.
Anyone who tells you that crap about their unpredictable nature, how they cannot be trusted next to your face, etc. never met this one...
Pecker never wanted to be more than a lean in distance away from sticking her head in my eye socket.
Anyone owned by "one of these" amazons, knows what I am talking about. They are priceless!
She died in my arms. And even though she was so weak she couldn't stand, and couldn't hold her head up anymore, she attempted to climb out of the towel and perch with her face next to mine. So, I set her on my shoulder, with her face resting against the side of my cheek. That calmed her, and she slept there with me quietly stroking her facial feathers and talking to her. And that's how she died.
Even in death, her capacity to love was astounding...

Peck is smiling in all of those wonderful photos and you are very lucky to have so many!
Words are really hard to find at this time and all I can really say is that I probably can relate to every emotion you've had better than anyone here. I just wish I could be of more help but as you saw with my PM reply, I really stink at this!
I can offer one good piece of advice though but I'm sure you already know this! Don't try to "replace" what you have lost. It's impossible. BUT, it IS possible to begin a new relationship with a new little feathered friend and make new memories!
I'm looking forward to your tribute and will check back for it. I totally understand the need for more time!

THAT bird is irreplaceable! You could get 1,000 blue fronts, and never approach this kind of personality, plus it's a bonding thing. She was near death when I got her, and I nursed her back to health. She never forgot that. And she let me know every moment of every day that she hadn't forgotten...
Most of my flock are irreplaceable at this point.
The too I am working with is basically to get my mind focused on something constructive. He's not a "replacement" bird. He's a four month foster care bird, with a lot of problems. Dealing with his hurts, helps me with mine...

A lot of people thought I was really "rushing it" taking in the new foster care bird, but basically this little guy was someone I started working with while Peck was ill, and I was going back and forth to the vet...
As bonded as Sally and I are, and we are exceptionally bonded. Same with Py, and same with Sweepea...
It was always different with Pecker. And she was instantly "JUST THAT BONDED" from the minute I took her into my home...
And that's just not something you come across everyday... or something you can replace, even if you find it again. It's unique, and special, and a "pair bond" thing...
I've worked with probably 20-30 or more amazons over the years, and provided care for probably a dozen others. I've had a pair bond relationship with exactly two of them.
I have one left...

Just wanted to share this tribute card I made in memory of Pecker and sent to BMan. I pictured Sammy in a beautiful place like this after he passed on and I thought it would be comforting to ((BMan)) as well....
