Anyone familiar with HQ Cages? I remember someone on the old forum hated a particular manufacturer and i can't remember which one??????? http://www.hqcages.com/
I think you're talking about me. Someone posted a pic of a particular cage they were interested in & I STRONGLY recommended against it. It was the same as Oliver's first cage which was a total POS. Unfortunately I can't remember the manufacturer either, ours had no manufacturer name or markings anywhere. I just recognized it from the pic that was posted. It wasn't an HQ though.

Sounds like the post im talking about i think lol . Was'nt the cage put together by snaps or something?
There is a guy on ebay that is selling this brand for cheaper. I have decided to go with the large double Macaw cage but want to make sure that its not a junky brand. Im not in a hurry, i have a few months to play with! Hopefully he is still selling them then. If worse comes to worse i will just order through the company.
Yeah, that's the one. Held together by these little metal snap in pieces. Advertised as an easier way to put a cage together than real hardware. They came out really easily & Oliver was always pulling them out. Also the main door & one of the food doors would not latch properly & Oliver could easily open them. Had to jury rig the thing to keep him in it. Here's a pic of one of the pieces that holds the cage together (the part with the arrow on it). If you ever see this when cage shopping, RUN the other way. I can't vouch for the HQ cage you're looking at, but I know the one we had was total junk.

When I saw the title I had to post. We extremely dislike HQ cages. Although they cosmetically look nice, they are not sturdy. Especially the wheel casings. Every one we've had loses the dang wheels!
So you're the one bidding against me on that cage!
That's the same cage I'm looking at for the four new zons.
lmao no. You can hit the buy it now button, there are 4 left of that cage. He is a power seller with a store. Im not going to get it now im gonna wait until its close to bring the bird home. Otherwise i am going to have an empty cage sitting there for about 4 months lol.
If that guy doesnt have any cages like that when its time for me to get one, i can always just order it from the company. Its about $100.00 more.
LadyA, the wheel problem does'nt bother me, i can get new ones for about $5.00 if i have any problems. I have heard of a few other people with this brand cage and they love it. I just wanted to make sure it was'nt the brand that Gin was talking about on the old forum.
As for those clip together cages. My cages had to be switched to lock nuts cuz they could take regular nuts and bolts apart. (I don't care how tight you think you made it... Crash! Boom! Evil birdie laughter... )
My last macaw cage had those clamp tight bolt together treat cup doors. I had to modify them myself because they hit the floor within seconds...
Clips?! Hey cage designer, what were you thinking?!
I feel the same way about any cage that does not come with pull out trays and grates, that breaks down for easy cleaning. (No, thank you, I do not want to get down on my hands and knees and climb inside the thing to clean it.)
And anything that doesn't have a way to keep the food and water dishes from being dumped - forget about it!!!

Do you by chance live in Florida? I know of an excellent breeder in the Miami area who sells HQ cages at very discounted prices. I think he may be cheaper than the e-bay vendor but not for certain about that. He does not ship so I've never been able to get anything from him. But I know for a fact he sells the HQ Double Macaw Cage brand new in the box. If you are interested, let me know and I will PM his contact info to you.

Hello Tina...... I use HQ cages and like them very much myself. I believe the newer models are coming in now with a new screw-on style wheel and a better door latch. I personally never had a problem myself with their cages other than a wheel or two that comes off when I lift the cage - due actually from improper/not careful enough installation. The newer wheel though is definitely an upgrade.
I assume Margaritaville is in Fla.? If so, maybe I can help ya on your quest for a D.M. HQ Cage at a great price?
OHHHH i wish i lived in florida but unfortunately i live in Michigan. Margaritaville is a joke. I always say im running away to some tropical island somewhere lol.

Where in Michigan, may I ask (if not private info.)?

Tina, I'm glad you have connections! We tried to get the wheel casings that holds the wheel or with wheels if needed and couldn't find a vendor who could get it for us. (we live in MI too). We did however, go to Lows and found a bed casing that holds bed wheels for 1.99 that is working if we don't move that monster of a cage! The cages themselves are nice to me. It's just unfortunate that we have to move cages around and loosing wheels in the process, just gets annoying. I'm glad to hear they are modifying the wheels! Good luck on getting your cage!

Hi J.
I see you have the HQ36432 and the HQ18040. I have been looking at both these cages on the net. One concern I have is I own a Timnah and the bar spacing may not be right for Pete. I have seen the 36432 listed as one inch spacing on some sites and 1.22 on others. Is 1.22 inch bar spacing the actual gap between the bars or are the bars centered at 1.22 inch intervals? Pete is a smaller Timnah and a one inch gap is about the safe limit I would think. Also I can tell by photos the HQ18040 has an open grid on top but the HQ36432 appears to be closed on top with sheet metal, am I correct. I would like Pete to be able to hang upside down from the top of the cage. Something he loves doing. I know this is a lot of cage for him but after 15 years in a much smaller cage I think he is ready for an upgrade.
I'm so glad this thread is still here! I had mentioned earlier about having the double mac cage with broken wheels and not finding ANY vendor that wanted to track me down some replacement wheels?? I found a place in Florida who not only sent me the right wheels I needed, but sent me the newer WRONG wheels just in case those were what I needed!? How is that for super nice!??! And we even went further off track and bought Alex a brand new HQ cage. It looks like the new wheels are better suited for the size then the old ones. So hopefully, the HQ cage will turn out fine.
Congrats on your decision to upgrade to one of those large cages as IMO the longer/bigger/roomier the cage, the better.
I just measured for you and according to my tape measure here, the space between the bars of the 18040 is 1 inch exactly. I feel that is fine for a TAG IME.
I believe the 36432 is also exactly one inch but I don't have any in stock right now. I like the option of having the pull out center divider if you at all think you might need it someday to house more than one bird but otherwise I would go with the roomier 18040.
No, neither of those cages have a sheet metal roof but are like the rest of the cage = open grid as you call it.
You might also consider the large Corner Cages by HQ.
Anywhere near South Fla., so I can get ya a deal? I don't ship at present time.
