Yesterday I was playing some music while I had the birds out. Darcy was being really loud so I turned around to see what was going on. Much to my surprise she was dancing. She was sort of doing the head bob, but with her whole body, like birdie pogo-ing. Cutest thing I've ever seen! The song she liked so much was Bad Romance from Lady Gaga, lol. Do any of your fids have a favorite song?

I've heard of them, hybrid of Jenday and Sun, but I never saw one until the other week. I was in Petco getting food for the "farm" that my house has become (the 2 birds, 2 puppies, 1 ferret, 1 aquarium; I think that's all), and went by the birds. Even though I'd never seen one, there was no mistaking it. I was sure it had to be a Sunday.

It was beautiful (but not as pretty as my Rio, of course). It's entire head and front was almost the same deep reddish orange that a Jenday's mask is, and the wings were predominately green with only some speckles of yellow.

I happened to be talking to one of the employees about the group of Jendays and Suns they had recently. She said that was the last Sun. I said "Uh no, that's a Sunday" and I told her why.

This is why places like Petco... oh nevermind. :disgust:

I need some help please - my bird is driving me crazy

My happy and calm bird has become a little screeching/chirping nightmare!! It started last Nov when my mom came to stay with us - I put it down to change in environment and maybe she sensed tension as my mom was ill but I thought it would stop once she got used to an additional person. Mom was only with us until Jan but it didn't stop. She's located in the flow of things where she can see out into the yard and garden and she's always been happy there. We have plenty of people in and out and that never bothered her. When we eat, she always gets a little treat too because she likes to eat whe we do.

Now... she'll start screaming and chirping excessively the minute she hears you pop the toaster, if you're having a conversation with someone or on the phone - she immediately starts in. I can be with her, giving her attention and playing and all I have to do is turn around and walk a few steps and off she goes again. She'll fly over to me, hang out, play, fly back to her cage and then just start. If we're watching TV - she'll start - get up to see what she wants and she'll wait until you sit down and then goes off again. When we come home for lunch - the minute she hears me coming in she starts up - I can't even go into the bathroom without her starting up.

She's not insecure - she's not bored because she has plenty of toys and I switch them out all the time. I take her outside so she gets plenty of sun and fresh air - she loves it out there. She gets to be out of her cage. I give her baths all the time and encourage her to fly - to get exercise and hopefully to wear her out a bit - I've clipped wings during this time thinking she was getting too feisty and wasn't listening.

Sometimes the constant non-stop chirping / screeching is enough where I want to wring her little neck :emot117: I've even threatened to let her fly free with all the other birds in our backyard :emot73:

My husband says I'll never get rid of that bird - and I do love her - but it's been one heck of a terrible year and she is literally driving me crazy! I tried to find old posts on spoiled bird or advise but couldn't find what I was looking for. I guess we lost some threads when things switched over....

Does anyone have any suggestions please - sorry this is long but it's not like she's got this terrible boring life and she's begging for attention. We don't overdo it with her either - she's always been a great addition. It has really gotten to the point that you can't carry on a conversation with a friend or family member or even on the phone. She's starts up and won't stop.

Have any of you been thru this?

If she were flighted, she'd be who-knows-where in the house. Even when I'm carrying her, she seems ready to take off. I'll cup my hand over her head if I think I'm going to have to chase her on the floor. Are some birds just naturally skittish?

Hey hey everybody! Hope everyone and their fids are well. Happy early Mother's day to all the birdie Mommas out there!

When I got Jazz, I looked all over the web to find info about Green Cheeks. I would find some info here and some info there and it was alot of "biology book" type info, so I thought I would start my own.

So I started a Green Cheek Conure website and instead of "book" type information, I would love information from real people who own real GCC's. I have added tons of info from GCC owners on my Yahoo group, but would love to add any information that any of you feel I left out. So please, stop by and check out the site. I would love your comments, suggestions and feedback. http://greencheekconure.org/

Also, Pam the breeder Jazz came from sent me some baby pics of him today and I posted them on his blog. There's a link to it from the site.

It's not a paid site, so there are ads at the top of the screen. I do not know what ads will be there, so know I am not selling or endorsing anything. Just trying to make a great place for brand new GCC owners like me to find information.

I am in the process of changing the forum link on the website to this forum since I think people would gain much more information from it. Anyways, I've rambled on long enough. Let me know what you think???

Is there a way to stop a conure from screaming? As I posted earlier, I replaced kiwi (Pionus) with a conure... and then I replaced that one with a quieter one.

I really wanted to keep the first conure I got. It took to me instantly, jumped on my shoulder and played with my chain (though he got a bit nasty when I stopped him). The reson I got rid of him is because whenever he was in his cage, he'd scream and scream and before too long, my dad made me swap him :( (I live in his house so I can't really argue). I really wanted to try and find a way to stop the screaming before I replaced him, but he wouldn't let me.

I was hoping, if there are some tips out there that you could throw my way, I could convince my dad to get him back.

The screaming is definatly an attention thing, when he is locked up in his cage. My dad put the night blanket on him to try and calm him down but that just made things 10 times worse.

This baby one I have now is cute, but the last one really took to me and think that if you find a connection with a bird like that, you've found the one for you.

Hey everyone,

Some of you may know me as a Pionus owner (Kiwi). Unfortunatly, after a year and a half, Kiwi was no tamer and pretty much as timid as he was when I got him, even after all the training so I decided to get another. Broke my heart to replace him, but I was getting no enjoyment from him at all.	:i.ao: . It probably broke the petshop oweners heart too when he went through his nail :emot15:

Now, I have mango! A half-Cinnamon (half god knows) conure. I'll put some pictures of him up another time so you can help me determine what the other half is. Mango is 10 weeks old but there is a problem. He doesn't just nip, he BITES. Even though he's little and a baby, it still hurts enough that I don't want to experience it 100 times a day. I don't think he is biting in an agressive manner, (though he will come over to me to bite me) I think it is more like he doesn't know how to act, because he hasn't grown up with any siblings.

I've been putting my hand in the cage and touching some of his toys and waited for him to come over. When he's bitten me, i've removed his beak gently and said 'no' in a sturn voice. I've only dont it for about 10 minutes so far, but he pauses, assesses the situation and then bites again (rinse and repeat). Am I doing this right? I'm not frightening him when I say no, but it's enough for him to stop doing it for a time.

Hi

Hi I am a new mom to Jazz, a 6 month old green cheek. I have experience with birds in the past, but new to conures. This swet boy is so precious, but he has some issues and maybe someone can help. First off, he is a bit nippy. That I know how to work with, but any suggestions are welcome.

Next, his papers say he is hand-fed. The people I got him from said that they spent time with him but when I offer him any food (I've tried apple slice, mango, grape) he acts like I'm chasing him and runs from me. If I put it in his food bowl, he ignores it. He loves his herb salad, ate it right out of the palm of my hand.

From what I can tell, I'm his third owner since he left his breeder. Any suggestions would be appreciated and welcome.

Thanks!
